Motel Broker
My Story
Hospitality and business have has always been part of my life. When I was still at primary school I had my first introduction to business with my parents owning a takeaway/ restaurant and as you did in those days I spent many an hour working in it, learning the effort required to make a scoop of chips which sold for 5 cents, and ethics of business.
My employment has ranged from electronics, waitressing, sales and education to our motel business and finally my current vocation as a Motel Business Broker.
Our Motel was Aaron Court Motor Inn, a 40 unit complex with restaurant and bar. We purchased this in 1996 and having been on many committees with schools, sports group, etc it didn’t take long before I was serving on the local Waikato Motel Association committee. This led to involvement in other areas such as the Tourism Waikato Advisory Board, the University of Waikato Hospitality Advisory Board and also as a National Board member for the Motel Association of New Zealand.
After 10 years of operating the complex, we sold the motel in 2006 and I joined the John Griffin Realty team as a motel broker. I completed my National Diploma in Real Estate in 2009 and at that time became an associate of REINZ and an accredited business broker.
I believe in continuing education and attend conferences, training courses, and various professional development opportunities to keep me up to date with the industry. This allows me to gain skills which will add value for you the client in the process of buying or selling a motel in New Zealand.
I like to be able to give back for some of the things life has given to me and so I contribute in some way to a deserving cause. I am currently involved with Hamilton Group Riding for the Disabled, where I have been a volunteer for about 7 years. I hold the position of Vice President, help within the programme and also manage the accounting and finances for the group.
Outside of work we are busy on our 5 acre lifestyle block. I enjoy time with my family, travelling and I have a small horse and compete in Carriage Driving competitions and A & P shows.
