Administration Manager

My Story

Growing up in Queenstown I was very aware of the value of tourists, hospitality and customer service. I left school and joined the RNZAF training as a chef under London City and Guilds standards. Initially working as a chef I then progressed to the mess manager where I had the responsibility to ensure the efficient operation of various sized kitchens the larger size being a 400 man dinning mess. I was also involved in planning and executing functions including formal dinners for up to 200 people. At various stages I was also employed as a secondary job in commercial restaurants giving me experience in the professional customer service sector.

During my later years in the RNZAF I was the Senior Chef Instructor at No3 Technical Training School at Base Wigram until my last RNZAF position of Warrant Officer based in Air Command where I was involved in training and course design for non technical trades. Upon leaving the RNZAF after 21 years we purchasing the Aaron Court Motor Inn. This was a 40 unit accommodation complex with restaurant and bar. We operated the complex for 10 years during which time I learned many aspects of motel life. I was also involved in the wider industry attending MANZ conferences and being involved on Waikato Motel Association subcommittees including the Rates Committee.

After selling the motel business I was the Secretary Manager for the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club for 7 years. This involved all aspects of managing a club with bar, gaming and restaurant facilities and a membership base of up to 3000 people.

All of my positions have involved customer service, administration duties and hospitality which has given me a good foundation of skills and knowledge to help people looking at entering the motel industry.

In my spare time I am kept busy around our five acre lifestyle block. I compete in Dog Agility, enjoy cycling and travel.
